Testimonial from Rod Woodruff  TV & Film Director

I have known Ken Hickey for some twenty years as both a professional photographer and one of my closest friends. Some twenty years ago; he was making a name for himself with photography that was very brave and totally original. My wife and I, Sheena, look back on our own wedding photos; the costumes and the hair styles tell it to be 1987, but the photography was at least twenty years ahead of its time.

There appears to be no range that Kenny cannot put his own unique mark on; from glamour and fashion, right across a wide spectrum and variety of subject matters;  the arts, history, geography, nature, sport.

On a professional level, any employer could place Ken Hickey in any situation; from war photography to babies being born and the man would adapt to the environment and the situation. For many years, I have asked myself how this could be and the answer lies in the truth of his art and his happy commitment and dedication to his work. Kenny treats people as individuals; a hard act in the egoes of today's world.

In this his chosen art format he remains both genius and visionary. For weddings, you can rest assured that the bride of the day will get the very best of her day on film, but if two kids start playing with some mud or do something unusual out the corner of his eye; the lens will be changed; the moment will be captured and he will quickly return his attention to the bride.

As a film maker for twenty years in the motion picture industry, I have seen very few Director's Of Photography (or lighting cameramen) who have both the confidence and the bravery to suggest new creative ideas and to move with the moment when the moment moves. Kenny does this like most people breath. He not only adapts to the situation or the forum of the work, but has the very rare ability to change when it changes.

This is the guy you want on your side - end of story. When the wedding looks ruined in a sudden downpour of rain; you can rest assured that when everyone is running for cover in those brief few seconds; that at least one role of film will be filled with this moment.

A wedding is one of the greatest happiest occasions of a show of 'love' and 'commitment' and that is exactly what you get when you pick up the phone to Kenny.

As an athlete and a film maker, I have always admired people who are just really good at one thing; whether it is sport, literature, art. music, etc etc. The deeper Kenny has moved into his chosen art format the more he has opened his mind to even greater creativity, rather than move along with a 'seen it done it all attitude' and this is the mark of a true creator.

The man's work speaks for itself; so I should just shut up.

Perhaps the greatest accolade and the greatest most trusting thing about human nature; is to truly believe in another person; to know that not only that this person will deliver for you; but that they will deliver through the greatest struggle and adversity to create something very special and memorable.

Sixteen years ago, Kenny took some of the most beautiful photos I can remember of our daughter, Montana after she was born. The little girl is now sixteen and is studying photography with a passion and a fresh creativity that still remains in Kenny's photography. She soon hopes to go the The National Maritime Museum and meet the man that her Dad has told her all about. I can rest assured of one thing; that it will be a day that she will never forget and a day to inspire her.

I'm not sure of the artist who said... I have spent all my life learning how to paint, only to paint like a child again', but this seems to be where Kenny has arrived. His work has a child like quality in its sense of fun; (you only have to look at his wedding photos to see the joy that comes out through film) but in contrast he can also shoot the gravest and saddest moments within life and encapsulate them for exactly what they are.

So what do you get with Kenny? Dedication, commitment, professionalism and an overriding sense that this man is there just for you, just for your day; just for your moment.
Rest assured; there is no problem and he will always remain bigger than the problem.

I remember arranging to meet Kenny, when I lived at the top of the Star and Garter pub many years ago. I had no telephone and no bell and there was no access to my little apartment up in the Gods, but before I could go down stairs to meet him; he was suddenly on the roof, having climbed five stories of scaffolding!!!

For some strange reason that day, I knew that I'd have a friend for life.

Kenny was amazing! We had a very small wedding and weren't certain if we
even wanted to have a photographer present; thank goodness we did.
Kenny not only took beautiful photographs but his presence was a wonderful
addition to our intimate gathering.   He made us all feel extremely comfortable
and relaxed. He perfectly captured the joy and excitement of the day.   I cannot speak highly enough of both Kenny's work and personality.

The 4th of September was the best day of our lives helped enormously by our
wonderful photographer.   Kenny had a most calming influence on me, the bride,
especially during the pre-wedding hours.   He was totally professional but
unobtrusive during the entire event, and clearly did not miss a single moment
of our day.   Now that it is all over, we have the happiest memories and the most
beautiful photo's that we, our friends and families have ever seen.
Thank you so much Kenny.

Dear Kenny

Samantha and I would like to thank you for the beautiful photographs that you took of our wedding.   Choosing a photographer is never easy, often worrying about how the final prints will turn out, or whether they will turn out at all! We are so pleased with the results and quality of the prints that we will be recommending you in the future.   We found you to be extremely friendly and professional, helpful and yet unobtrusive.   Thank you Kenny you did us proud!

As expected. Kenny's work was fantastic well received by everyone.
Even before our wonderful day, Kenny was working hard to ensure
we were happy with his approach, style and commitment.
His style fitted the setting perfectly - professional, yet unobtrusive,
relaxed and fun.   Kenny's attention to detail and eye for 'magical' shots was amazing.   On the day, Kenny went the extra mile - from start to finish - and even joined in for most of the party.   Kenny really made our day complete and the images he captured are stunning and beautiful reminders of a most fantastic day.

"We had a fantastic wedding on a very hot sunny day in August.
It was captured for friends and family alike in a set of marvelous
marvelous photographs.   Kenny's professional, unobtrusive and
friendly approach made a major contribution to the success of the
event.   I cannot speak highly for the quality of the photographs.
We were impressed with the ones of Imelda and I walking through secluded woodland.
All Kenny's own idea"
